Every year, there are approximately 12 million oil palm tree to be chopped off in Malaysia. This is because oil palms trunks were no longer producing fruit after 20 to 25 years and replanting programmed is necessary.
So how can we handle properly with this huge number of oil palm trunk?
By putting effort from Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and private sectors, we are now success to transform the waste into beautiful wood grain furniture material.
Hupsheng Furniture Industries with a brand of DHEP furniture is successfully to use oil palm wood combine with others material to design unique furniture in Malaysia. The center table attached is using rubber wood to enforce structure durability and match with unique wood grain of oil palm wood, after special furnishing treatment. This beautiful wood grain is unique and it is different from piece to piece, due to their natural fiber inside. The portion between the usage oil palm wood and rubber wood in this center table is about 60:40. We are still doing more researches and try to increase the usage of oil palm wood in furniture. Currently we have developed our oil palm wood furniture series to dining table, dining chair, TV cabinet, center table, sofa, buffet & hutch and others.
So by combining of few wasted materials like palm wood and rubber wood, we are able to design environmental friendly and beautiful furniture. Let us fully utilized the waste and try to create a new trend of home living concept.
